Conferència sobre el canvi climàtic a càrrec d’Antoni Rosell

L’investigador ICREA de l’ICTA-UAB Antoni Rosell Melé va oferir aquesta setmana una conferència sobre canvi climàtic a l’Aula d´Extensió Universitària de Rubí (AEUR). Rosell, que està especialitzat en l´aplicació de biomarcadors per desxifrar les causes naturals del canvi climàtic, va exposar el concepte i els materials que s´alliberen a l´atmosfera que contribueixen a l´escalfament global, i  va parlar dels sectors d´emissió de gasos d´efecte hivernacle, els efectes que provoca i la resposta que es duu a terme per combatre´l.

Mitjançant l’aplicació de tècniques geoquímiques orgàniques que permeten la reconstrucció quantitativa dels climes del passat (fa 5 milions d´anys) va presentar gràfics estadístics que demostren la variació de paràmetres com la concentració de CO2 i temperatura i la seva repercussió en l´actualitat. Ha recalcat que es un tema de conscienciació social.

Segons va explicar, els nivells de CO2 a l'atmosfera han pujat de manera alarmant d'ençà que es va iniciar l'anomenada revolució industrial. En el gràfic adjunt es poden veure els nivells de CO2 a l'atmosfera els darrers 400,000 anys on s'observen els darrers tres cicles de glaciació. De fet, el nivell de CO2 de l'època pre-industrial acceptat per la comunitat científica és 280 ppm. La concentració de CO2 a febrer de 2018 és de 408 ppm (www.co2.earth). Crida l'atenció el ràpid increment de la concentració de CO2 en els últims anys com s'observa a l'extrem dret del gràfic on s'assoleixen nivells molt per damunt dels màxims històrics. Aquí rau la causa principal del ràpid escalfament de la terra que observem des de finals del segle XIX i en especial les darreres dècades.

Posteriorment hi va haver un interessant debat sobre la situació i evolució tecnològica i política en l´actualitat en relació a aquest aspecte.
