Barbara D'amario holds BSc and MSc in Geological Sciences, obtained at the University of Chieti-Pescara (Italy). During her studies she specialized in biostratigraphy and paleoceanography, focusing on calcareous nannofossils. After a short period in the oil industry as wellsite stratigrapher, she enrolled as a PhD student at ICTA. Here, she is investigating the distribution of Mediterranean nannoplankton and the effects of climatic changes on these same communities present; This study has been done in collaboration with the European MedSeA (Mediterranean Sea Acidification in a changing climate) project.
Barbara's academic interests include coccolithophore and calcareous nannofossil taxonomy, morphology and ecology. She is also keen on coccolithophore and nannofossil applications in environmental and paleo-environmental studies.
