Isabel Ruiz Mallén

Isabel Ruiz-Mallén is an associated researcher at ICTA. She holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences at the UAB –where she also studied a degree in Environmental Sciences- and a Master degree in Biological Sciences at UNAM, Mexico. Her postdoctoral research has contributed to the understanding of cultural, socio-economic and institutional factors affecting biological and cultural diversity conservation in rural and indigenous communities –mainly in Latin America- through the lens of ethnoecology. She has co-authored more than thirty scientific publications on these topics, and mostly in peer-reviewed journals of high impact, such as Global Environmental Change, Environmental Science & Policy, PLOS One, Conservation Biology, Ecology and Society, Forest Ecology and Management, and she has co-edited a book on Community Conservation published by Springer Ltd. Her research interests also lie in public understanding of science, science education and communication. She is now coordinating the H2020 EU research project PERFORM “Participatory engagement with scientific and technological research through performance” (2015-2018) at the IN3-UOC where she works where as a Ramón y Cajal Research Fellow.
