Esteve Corbera Elizalde

Esteve Corbera (PhD, MSc, BA) joined ICTA as a ‘Ramón y Cajal’ fellow in 2011 and, since 2016, he is a Senior Researcher funded by the UAB-Banco de Santander Talent Retention Programme. He earned his PhD degree in Development Studies at the University of East Anglia (UK) and graduated in Environmental Sciences at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain). He also has an MSc in Natural Resources and Development (University of East Anglia) and a postgraduate course in Environmental Management (Universitat de Barcelona).

Esteve studies human relationships with nature, and the impact of social, policy and environmental change on resource governance. His research main focus is the analysis of climate change mitigation/adaptation and biodiversity conservation programs, including climate-policy and biodiversity conservation related instruments, such as Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) and carbon offset projects, as well as biofuels, and how these impact livelihoods in the global South and transform institutions and people’s behavior.

His articles have been published in internationally renowned academic journals and books, including Nature Climate Change, World Development or Ecological Economics. In Catalonia, he has co-authored the study 'The use of energy in Catalonia' (CADS, 2009), the book 'Water and Climate Change in the Mediterranean' (UNESCOCAT, 2010), and 'The second report on climate change in Catalonia' (Generalitat de Catalunya, 2010).
Esteve has authored the 'Sustainable Development and Equity' and the 'Agriculture, Forestry and Land Use' chapters of the 5th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. He is an editorial member of Geoforum and has been a member the international editorial boards of the Journal of Peasant Studies (ongoing) and Global Environmental Change (2013-2015).
