
Rafael is a PhD student working under the supervision of Mario Giampietro. His current work focuses on the characterization of the oil and gas sector in Mexico. Furthermore, He is collaborating in the study of the nexus between charcoal, food and water in the tropics.
He received his master’s degree in Geography from the Centre for Environmental Geography (CIGA), National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He also obtained his bachelor’s degree in Biology from UNAM.
Prior to beginning the PhD program, Rafael worked as a GIS and Remote Sensing technician. He consulted on a variety of projects; involving land use and land cover change, and deforestation and degradation analysis.
