Growing up in Memmingen, a city in southern Germany, Sven is a PhD student at ICTA-UAB. He did his BSc in Geography with emphasis on physical Geography at Heidelberg University before doing the master program in Interdisciplinary Studies in Environmental, Economic and Social Sustainability: Specialty in Science and Management of Global Change at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Supervised by Patrizia Ziveri and P. Graham Mortyn, his master thesis investigated the impact of climate change drivers on planktic foraminiferal species and mass dynamics during the last 500 years in a sub-basin of the Western Mediterranean Sea. Afterwards, Sven started a MSc in Marine Geosciences at Bremen University, finalizing courses in Climatology, Climate Change Modelling and Marine Environmental Archives, before starting his PhD in 2018.

Research Interest
As a result of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions marine ecosystems are being increasingly stressed. The exploitation of coastal living marine resources has exceeded sustainable levels in many regions, altering the marine ecosystem in ways that have been largely undocumented, but which can potentially be reconstructed using selected proxy methods. By developing a paleo proxy based on fish remains, Sven´s work aims to understand the dynamics of fish stocks in the Mediterranean a highly-populated region largely affected by accelerated climate change and overfishing. While reconstructing paleo fish abundances, he tries to gain more knowledge about the natural variability of the system and the combined effects of climate change and other anthropogenic impacts.
