I am a postdoctoral researcher based at ICTA-UAB and the Barcelona Lab for Urban Environmental Justice and Sustainability (BCNUEJ), where I am leading research on urban environmental justice through the UrbanA H-2020 project, and on feminist political ecology through the coordination of research within the WEGO H-2020 Innovative Training Network. I have been a Marie-Curie postdoctoral fellow in the FP-7 funded European Training Network in Political Ecology (ENTITLE) and I am part of the Undisciplined Environments editorial collective. My background is in biology and have completed the JEMES master on Environmental Studies, with joint training in Universidade de Aveiro, Portugal and at ICTA-UAB. My PhD was in development studies, cultural and political change (University of Bonn, 2014).
My research spans the fields of environmental health and justice, the politics of public health, and urban nature's neoliberalisation processes. I have experience in the Mediterranean context (Greece, Cyprus, Spain) but have also conducted fieldwork in Ireland and in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. I have taught the class of Political Ecology in the ICTA’s master program, and will be teaching the module of Environmental Justice in the master program of Degrowth and Environmental Justice.
Research interests
My core interest lies in the supra-disciplinary field of political ecology, examining how knowledge and power relations together shape socio-ecological outcomes and spheres. I have worked with approaches from peasant studies, postcolonial studies, urban political economy and feminist theory. I am now focusing on understanding the dialectics between urban sustainability initiatives and socio-environmental justice. My interests expand into the politics of risk perception, climate change impacts on health, and care-full commons. I am currently also working on developing a research line on health, well-being, feminism and degrowth.
