Llicenciat en Biologia (Universitat de Barcelona) i doctor en Ciències Ambientals (UAB), la seva recerca s'ha centrat, en un sentit ampli, en la conservació dels boscos tropicals humits, la responsabilitat social corporativa i la quantificació dels passius socials i ambientals de les companyies petrolieres, així com en l'estudi de l'expansió de la frontera petroliera; amb aproximacions des de la teledetecció, l'etno-cartografia i el monitoratge participatiu dels impactes de les indústries extractives. En Martí compta amb 10 anys d'experiència treballant en els impactes ambientals de la industria petroliera, en els territoris Achuar i Kichwa de l'Amazònia peruana, on lidera els seus propis projectes de recerca, en col·laboració amb la FECONACO (Federació de Comunitats Natives del Riu Corrientes) i la FEDIQUEP (Federació Indígena Quechua del Pastaza). També ha treballat en la governança dels recursos i els serveis ambientals, l'etno-ecologia i la gestió local de la biodiversitat amb la participació dels pobles indígenes de les terres baixes de l'Amazonia Boliviana i les selves tropicals del sud-est asiàtic (Indonèsia). Investigador post-doctoral Marie Curie de la European Network of Political Ecology, en l'actualitat és investigador del International Institute of Social Studies/Erasmus University Rotterdam.
